Re-Opening of Businesses Following Covid-19 Lockdown

With shops and businesses starting to re-open as part of the Covid-19 recovery programmes, they must risk assess their working practices and premises to incorporate government guidance to protect the public and employees.

Below are key considerations to promote the safe reopening and operation of your business. This list is not exhaustive and will differ depending on your specific business and premises layout.

You must:

  • Implement social distancing arrangements for the public and employees covering all parts of the business premises, and prominently display social distancing information around the building.
  • Ensure social distancing arrangements do not cause a problem for other premises or obstruct the street.
  • Ensure that staff have access to person protection measures, including hand gel, face coverings and screens around checkouts, and are aware of and fully understand the control measures in place.
  • Determine the minimum number of employees needed on the premises to operate safely an effectively
  • Identity how many people can safely occupy the premises to maintain effective social distancing
  • Consider how you will deal with surfaces that staff and customers touch, including stock
  • Make sure your premises are well ventilated
  • Inspect your premises before opening for signs of pest activity or damage
  • Check the Legionella bacteria in any water supplies or air conditioning units which may have been turned off for a while
