Latest Fake HMRC email scam
A new fake ‘HMRC’ email scam is currently being sent out to taxpayers suggesting they have a tax refund.
Purporting to come from HMRC, the email says the recipient is eligible to receive a tax refund and needs to complete a form to receive this.
The email comes with an HMRC logo, in the familiar green, but the spelling mistakes, poor layout and wording will probably suggest too many recipients that it is a fake. It also comes from a give-away non-official email address.
As we have previously advised, in our regular warnings about phishing attempts and you can check examples of known phishing emails. Forward suspicious emails to a HMRC at phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk, then delete them.
Tax refund email scam
The email claims that you are due a tax refund and asked to submit form by following the link given on the email.
The full text of this email scam including typos is:

Sent: 11 February 2016 04:22
Subject: your are eligible to receive a tax refund of £350.98 !
After the last calculation of you fiscal activity, we have determinate that you are eligible to receive a refund of 350.98 GBP.
You must complete your form, and allow 3 -5 working days to process it.
Click here to complete your form
