Date:
Category:
Latest News

There are currently fake ‘HMRC’ emails circulating AGAIN that are suggesting taxpayers have a tax refund or they owe money to HMRC.

HMRC will never send notifications by email for tax rebates, refund and personal or payment information.

Here is a selection of scam email addresses used to distribute the tax rebate scam emails below:

  • refund@hmrc.gov
  • secure@hmrc.co.uk
  • taxrefund-notice@hmrc.gov.uk
  • taxrefund@hmrc.gov.uk
  • refund-help@hmrc.gov.uk
  • alert@hmrc.gov.uk
  • refunds@hmrc.gov.uk
  • rebate@hmrc.gov.uk
  • HM-Revenue-&-Customs@ztoro.com

Many fraudsters are using different techniques to lure taxpayer’s information from them such as text messages, phone calls and social media.

HMRC may sent text messages but they will never ask for personal or financial information. If you get a text message claiming to be HMRC offering a ‘tax refund’ please do not click on the link provided or contact the number on the text.

If you receive an automated phone call claiming to be HMRC which mentions that a lawsuit is going to filed again you for non-payment of tax and states that you should ‘press 1 to speak to an advisor to make an immediate payment’. Please do not do this and end the call immediately on them. Pleas be aware HMRC have confirmed that this is a scam.

A recent social media scam has been identified on Twitter offering a tax refund to a user. The messages that are sent through social media offering a tax refund or to confirm any personal or financial information are not genuine and HMRC have confirmed that this is another scam.

If you do receive any of the above communications from ‘HMRC’ please either contact Action Fraud https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ 0300 123 2040 or alternatively send the information to HMRC’s Phising team phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
